Klondike Solitaire

Klondike is the solitaire everyone means when they just say “solitaire.” You get seven tableau columns, a stock to draw from and four empty foundations. The goal is to build all four foundations up from Ace to King, one suit each. In the tableau you stack cards down in alternating colours — a red six on a black seven — shifting whole runs to dig out the face-down cards underneath. On Solitaire.Free you can play the way you like: draw one card at a time for a gentler game or three for the classic challenge, and score the friendly Standard way or gamble on a running Vegas bankroll. Every game runs entirely in your browser, so it loads instantly and works offline once open.

How to play

  1. Build the tableau down. Drag a card (or a whole alternating-colour run) onto a card one rank higher of the opposite colour. Tap-to-select then tap-the-target also works on touch.
  2. Draw from the stock. Click the stock to flip cards to the waste — one card in draw-1, three in draw-3. When the stock empties, click it again to recycle the waste.
  3. Send Aces up first. Move each Ace to a foundation as it appears, then build up by suit to the King. Double-click a card to send it home automatically.
  4. Clear the board to win. Get all 52 cards onto the four foundations. When only face-up cards remain, hit Auto-complete to cascade the rest home.

Strategy tips

Lead with the cards that unblock the board, not the cards that score. Turn over face-down tableau cards before you empty the stock, keep at least one column open for a King when you can, and don’t rush an Ace to the foundation if it’s still doing useful work holding a run. In draw-3, count where the card you need sits in the stock before you commit a move you can’t take back. When you’re stuck, the Hint button ranks the most useful legal move; use “Winnable only” if you want a deal that’s guaranteed to have a solution.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between draw-1 and draw-3 Klondike?
Draw-1 flips one card from the stock at a time, so every card is immediately playable — the most forgiving way to play and the highest win rate. Draw-3 flips three at a time and you can only play the top one, so you have to plan around which cards you can reach. Draw-3 is the classic casino difficulty. You can switch anytime on the Klondike page; it is a toggle, not a separate game.
How does Vegas scoring work?
In Vegas you “buy” the deck for $52 (you start at minus 52) and earn $5 for every card you move to a foundation. Win a clean board and you finish up $208 for the deal. Your bankroll carries over from game to game, exactly like a Vegas table, so the aim is to stay in the black across a session. Standard scoring instead rewards individual good moves and adds a time bonus on a win.
Are the deals winnable?
Random deals play like real cards — some cannot be solved. But choose “Winnable only” from the New game menu and Solitaire.Free serves a deal that our solver has verified has a solution, so if you get stuck it is on you, not the shuffle. The daily challenge is always a winnable deal.
Can I undo a move?
Yes, unlimited undo and redo. In Standard scoring undo is free. In Vegas, money you already banked by sending a card to a foundation is not refunded when you undo — that mirrors real casino rules, and we keep it honest so the bankroll means something.
Does my win rate get saved?
Yes. Games played, win percentage, best time, best score and your current and longest streaks are saved right in your browser, so they work even if you never sign up. Create a free account and your stats sync across devices and merge with whatever you have already played.
Is Klondike Solitaire free on Solitaire.Free?
